Chili con carne Recipe

While its origin is from Northern Mexico and Southern Texas, a classic Chili recipe varies widely all over the world.
I’ll keep mine relatively simple, while it is not lacking all the classic ingredients. A good combination of spices is key.

Cook time: 30 minutes

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 lbs. ground beef
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 3 fresh tomatoes (diced) or 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 6 oz. tomato paste
  • 1 can 16 oz. kidney or black beans
  • 1 tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. ground pepper

Directions

1

In a large pan on medium-high heat brown the ground beef with the diced onion until cooked through.

2Add the diced tomatoes and the tomato paste. Stir to combine.

3Add the beans and cook for another 5 minutes.

4In the meantime combine all the spices in a small container and add to the Chili. Stir well and simmer for about 15/20 minutes.

5Serve with sour cream, grated cheese and tortilla chips if desired.
